Feb 21's Rain Total at LGB Was...

(Feb. 22, 2005) -- The National Weather Service says it recorded 1.56" of rain at LB Airport between 3:53 a.m. Mon. Feb. 21 and 3:53 a.m. Tues. Feb. 22.

The figure likely understate rainfall in other parts of LB where the most intense storm cells hit (these areas were isolated at times).

On Saturday Feb. 19, LB Airport got 1.46" of rain in the 24-hours preceding 3:53 a.m. Sunday Feb 20. (Sunday was mainly clear.)

The National Weather Service issued the following statement on Feb. 22 at 6:30 a.m.

BETWEEN THURSDAY FEBRUARY 17TH AND 600 AM THIS MORNING, TUESDAY FEBRUARY 22ND...DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES AT USC HAS RECEIVED 7.61 INCHES OF RAIN.

THIS BRINGS THE SEASONAL RAINFALL TOTAL TO 32.87 INCHES...

SO FAR. THIS SEASON NOW RANKS AS THE 4TH WETTEST IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES SINCE RECORDS BEGAN THERE IN 1877.

WITH ADDITIONAL SHOWER ACTIVITY EXPECTED THROUGH TONIGHT...THIS SEASON WILL CONTINUE TO EDGE CLOSER AND CLOSER TO THE WETTEST SEASON SINCE RECORDS BEGAN IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES. THAT HONOR BELONGS TO THE RAIN YEAR OF 1883-1884...WHEN 38.18 INCHES OF RAIN FELL.
