The How To's of Prayer Ministry

6.3 Where Do I Begin?

Where do I begin ?

1. Show genuine concern. Begin with a gesture that allows the recipient to know that you are genuinely interested in their need. Taking the individual by the hand, smile and don’t be afraid to make eye contact.

2. Make an effort to ask what the individual needs prayer for. Some appropriate beginning remarks might be.
a. “What do you want from the Lord?”
b. “What do you want Jesus to do for you?”
c. “What do you want Jesus to ask the Father to do for you today?
d. As we come to Jesus right now, He is about to take us to meet His Father....
This allows both of you to be in agreement for their need.

3. A position to receive. Allow for an atmosphere of expectancy. Challenge them to believe God. Express your conviction that you are expecting the Father to answer their need. You might ask them to put their hands in the shape of a cup or other receiving position. Anointing oil or scriptural agreement to James 5:14 is also helpful and opens them to greater faith to what the Lord wants to do in them.
